Two of the region’s most highly regarded quarterbacks will lead their teams into the quarter-final round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division-2 football playoffs on Friday evening in a confrontation of two extremely talented and explosive teams.

Seventh-seed Sacramento is led by 3-year starting QB Caden Voges who surpassed the 10,000-yards passing milestone earlier this season, while second-seed Antelope counters with Temple-bound QB Montel Aaron who’s guided the Titans to an 11-0 mark this season.

This headliner game is arguably the premiere match-up throughout the entire section and is the focal point of Access Sacramento‘s Hometown Sports Game of the Week.  This live telecast may be seen Friday evening at 7:00 pm on Comcast channel 17, Consolidated Communications channel 17, and AT&T U-Verse channel 14.

In conjunction with Access Sacramento’s playoff partnership with the NFHS Network, the game may also be seen live on the Internet at www.nfhsnetwork.com.

Voges has led Head Coach Justin Reber‘s Dragons (8-3, 7-0) to eight straight victories and a Metropolitan League championship for Sacramento for the first time in 23 years.  This season alone, Voges has passed for 2600 yards and 37 TDs for an imposing offense that averages 59 points per game.

Voges has dispersed touchdown passes to nine different receivers headed by Elijah Trosclair (9 TDs), DaVon Owens (8 TDs), and Anthony Johnson (6 TDs).

The Dragons’ ground game is also impressive.  The RB trio of Tariq Hollandsworth, Troy Sampson, and Christian Simmons have combined for nearly 2000 yards and 30 TDs.

A rampaging Sacramento defense is led by linebackers E.J. Larry, Lawrence Attaway, and Leon Haynes; a trio of run-stoppers who together have registered nearly 300 tackles, 18 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 10 fumble recoveries.

Head Coach Matt Ray‘s undefeated Titans (11-0, 7-0) will counter with Aaron, who’s passed for more than 2000 yards and 25 touchdowns.  Antelope’s versatile receiving corps of Daveon Johnson, Ryan McCombs, and Logan Paulson have accounted for 31 touchdown receptions.

The potent 1-2 punch of running backs Devaughn Silver and Elijah Dotson has shredded opposing defenses for better than 2300 yards and 24 TDs.

DB Johnson, LB Donte McAfee, and DB Khanii Lesane anchor a stingy Antelope defense that allows less than 20 points per game, and has compiled 20 sacks, 22 interceptions, and 11 fumble recoveries.

With such abundant explosive firepower in both arsenals, versus quick, hard-hitting defenses, it’s anyone’s guess how this flammable match-up will play out.

One thing that is predictable is the certainty of a wild and exciting football game that is ideally considered a fan’s delight.  Mark this one on your calendar … in ink.
